Volunteers recognized at banquet, present $55K check

ALPENA -- MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena recently held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet, honoring their hours and years of service to the Medical Center. More than 55 volunteers gathered for the evening of recognition.

During the event, volunteers presented a check for $55,000 toward their $250,000 pledge funding for the patient tower waiting room.

Amanda Timm, manager of volunteer services, welcomed guests and shared how the Medical Center volunteers donated 12,687 hours or service, the equivalent of six full-time employees, in 2022.

"We are finally back to full staffing post-pandemic," said Timm. "The dedication of our volunteers is unmatched, and our community, patients and staff are appreciative of their hard work."

Mike Erickson, president, MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, shared his gratitude for the volunteers and provided a brief update on the recent and future plans for the Medical Center. Timm then announced the new Volunteer of the Month program, bestowing the inaugural award to Jan Artley, long-time volunteer, who has 12,500 hours in volunteer service to the Medical Center.

Ann Diamond, director of fund development, MyMichigan Health Foundation, accepted the check during the presentation.

"We are so very appreciative of the hard work and dedication of the volunteers at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena," said Diamond. "They do amazing work assisting patients, making pillows, working the surgical lounge, registering patients, greeting visitors, and staffing the Gift Corner. We are grateful for all they do."
