Poetry reading and open mic May 25 at Alpena County Library
ALPENA – Alpena County Library will host a poetry reading and open mic at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 25.
Join Michigan poets Dennis Hinrichsen and Andrew Collard for an evening of poems and conversation, presented in partnership with the Susan Lane Foundation. The night will begin with an open mic, followed by featured readings by Hinrichsen (from his book “Flesh-plastique”, Green Linden Press) and Collard (“Sprawl”, Ohio University Press).
Hinrichsen is the author of 10 books of poems, including “Flesh-plastique” (2023) and “schema geometrica” (2021), both from Green Linden Press. He lives in Lansing, where from May 2017 to April 2019, he served as the first Poet Laureate of the Greater Lansing area. For more information, see dennishinrichsen.com.
Collard is the author of “Sprawl” (Ohio University Press, 2023), and winner of the Hollis Summers Poetry Prize. His poems have appeared in Ploughshares, AGNI, Best New Poets, and elsewhere. He currently lives in Grand Rapids with his son, where he teaches writing at Grand Valley State University.
The Alpena County Library is located at 211 N. 1st Ave. There is no cost to attend this event, and the public is welcome.
