“A Plastic Ocean” documents research into the life cycle of plastics. In the center of the Pacific Ocean researchers found more plastic than plankton. This film shows how plastics, once they enter the oceans, break up into small particulates that enter the food chain where they attract toxins like a magnet. These toxins are stored in seafood’s fatty tissues and eventually consumed by us.
The film is available on Netflix or free of charge on Kanopy, which is provided through the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library. See the library website for how to access Kanopy at alpenalibrary.org. View the film prior to Friday or simply come to lunch and enjoy the discussion.
