MCL Polish Dinner Jan. 13 at Alpena VFW

ALPENA — The Marine Corps League of Alpena is hosting a dine-in or take-out Polish Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 at the VFW Lounge, located at 2900 Connon St. in Alpena. The dinner is open to the public.

Euchre fundraiser for Plaza Pool Jan. 15

ALPENA — A euchre tournament fundraiser for the Plaza Pool will be held Sunday, Jan. 15 at the APlex, 701 Woodward Ave., Alpena, hosted by Friends of Plaza Pool.

Doors open at noon, and play starts at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person.

Free genealogy seminar Jan. 21 at library

ALPENA — The Northeast Michigan Genealogical Society has announced a free seminar on tracing your family history, Genealogy 101, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Alpena County Library.

The seminar will be held in the conference room. The library is located at 211 N. 1st Ave. in downtown Alpena. All are welcome to attend.

Hope Shores Alliance and ACL to host awareness program

HARRISVILLE — Learn how you can be an everyday advocate by bringing awareness to stalking and learning how to know it, name it, and stop it, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

This free event is sponsored by Hope Shores Alliance, and registration is not required.

Spaghetti benefit dinner Jan. 28 at Eagles Club

ALPENA — A spaghetti benefit dinner event with live music, raffles, and auctions, will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Eagles Club, 1960 W. M-32 in Alpena.

Proceeds will benefit a combat veteran and current Army National Guardsman who was on his way home from work on his motorcycle when he was hit by a truck. Funds raised will help with his expenses as he recovers.

In addition to dinner, there will be a silent auction, a chance auction, a 50/50 raffle, and live music by Birch Road Band, playing bluegrass and old timey music.

Dinner includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert, and beverages, including water, coffee, tea, Pepsi drinks, and a cash bar.

The cost for this event is $15 per adult, and $5 for children ages 12 and younger.

This benefit dinner is hosted by Combat Vets Association 35-6 and the family.

The public is welcome at this event.

Student ideas sought for Ice Fest designs

ALPENA — Thunder Bay Arts is looking for inspiration for the ice sculptures for Ice Fest, to be held Feb. 11.

Students are encouraged to sketch and submit their ideas by Thursday, Jan. 12 to the TBA Gallery in downtown Alpena, or to Dawn Gentry at Thunder Bay Junior High.

Four sketches will be chosen, one each from elementary, junior high, senior high, and college levels, to be carved into ice.

TBA Gallery is located at 127 W. Chisholm St., Alpena.
