Turkey Dinner

ACL hosting Storybook Gingerbread Contest

ALPENA — Get into the cozy wintertime spirit with the Alpena County Library’s Storybook Gingerbread Contest. Bakers and artists of all ages are invited to create a scene from their favorite storybook out of gingerbread.

Bakers residing in Alpena, Hillman, Hubbard Lake, Lachine, Maple Ridge, Ossineke, Posen, Presque Isle, and Sanborn are eligible to participate. First, second, and third prizes in the following age ranges will be awarded: child (up to age 12), teen (13-19), and adult. The first 30 people to register will receive a $20 Walmart gift card to reimburse them for a portion of the cost of ingredients.

Entries must be no larger than 20×20 inches and entirely edible. Registration ends Monday, Dec. 19, with viewing and voting Dec. 16-19. Voting will be done through the Library’s Facebook page.

Winners will be announced at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 in the Stillion Conference Room and via Facebook Live.

Bridge results noted

ALPENA — Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club results have been announced for this week, with Beverley Rousseau and Marcy Sherman taking first place. Linda Clegg and Audrey Stevens placed second, and Deanna Brege and Gayle Nowak placed third.

Thanksgiving dinner at American Legion

ALPENA — American Legion Post #65 will host a Thanksgiving dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

The dinner is open to the public, by donation. The post is located at 1316 M-32, in front of Walmart in Alpena. If you have questions, call 989-356-3357.

Pop-Up Pantry Saturday

ALPENA — A Pop-Up Pantry food giveaway will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the food is gone on Saturday at St. John Catholic Church in Alpena.

Please do not enter the parking lot before 10 a.m. Remain in your vehicle and make sure your trunk is cleaned out. There is no smoking allowed on-site, and no public restrooms on-site. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limited supply. The church is located at 2425 Frederick St., on the corner of North St. in Alpena.This event is brought to you by Feed the Need Alpena, the Exchange Club, and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
