ATLANTA — Atlanta Community Schools recently received a donation of $5,000 for “Go Kit” Supplies from the Home Depot Foundation. This included backpacks, buckets, cloth wipes, sanitizer, gloves, flashlights and other supplies for 40 classrooms and offices.

The “Go Kit” is recommended for schools to support the classroom and school preparedness of an emergency management plan, providing teachers with critical emergency supplies that are readily accessible. “Go Kits” are a self-contained and portable stockpile of emergency supplies, often placed in a backpack and left in a readily accessible but secure location so that it is ready to “go” during a lockdown or emergency situation. It includes first aid kits and all supplies needed. MyMichigan Medical Center recently trained all staff at Atlanta Community Schools on the proper use of tourniquets and donated tourniquets for each of the “Go Kits.”

Trooper Robert Mitchell from the Alpena State Police Post taught staff “Run, Hide, Fight” training along with “OK2SAY” reminders of the statewide hotline students can call. Montmorency County Sherriff Chad Brown also provided active shooter response training to the staff.
