Alcona County Library announces October events

HARRISVILLE — The Alcona County Library in Harrisville has announced its upcoming programs and events for October. For more information, call the library at 989-724-6796.

At 1 p.m. today, Friends of the Alcona County Library will meet at the Harrisville branch.

At 9 a.m. on Thursday, Community Walking Club for Everyone will meet in the parking lot of the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library, and again every Thursday in October.

At 2 p.m. on Thursday and again on Oct. 20, “Catch” an afternoon baseball movie with Professor Emeritus John Blakemore at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Popcorn and pop will be available.

This Friday is Popcorn Friday! Come to the Alcona County Library in Harrisville and enjoy a free bag of movie-style buttered popcorn, while supplies last. Don’t forget to check out a movie while you’re there.

Fridays in October, storytime and craft for children will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

At noon on Friday, The Alcona Woodcarvers will have a reception at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Carvings will be on display until Oct. 27.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friends of the Alcona County Library will hold a book sale at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library during library hours.

On Friday, Oct. 14, Friends of the Library will hold a book sale at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library during library hours from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, Friends of the Library will hold a book sale at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library during library hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, The Alcona Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. The selection for October is “The Housekeeper and the Professor” by Yoko Ogawa.

Knitting Klub & Crochet will meet from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. All ages and levels are welcome, call 989-724-6796 for more information.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m., the Alcona County Library Board will meet at the Hubbard Lake Community Center.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., teens and adults are invited to Craftomania! with Jan and Kat at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. October’s project is tie-dye. Bring your own item, washed without fabric softener. Please call 989-724-6796 to register for this free event.

On Monday, Oct. 31, teens and adults are invited to join the library’s new Cryptid Club! Cryptids are creatures whose existence has yet to be (or cannot entirely be) proven, like Bigfoot and the Michigan Dogman. The first meeting will be at 4 p.m. on Oct. 31 at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

Then at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31, Teen Movie & Munchies will be at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library, for ages 13 and up. Enjoy a “ghost” themed movie and fun Halloween snacks.

Also on Oct. 31, the Curtis Township Library in Glennie will have a Drive-Thru Halloween Party from 5 to 7 p.m. with candy and prizes! Call 989-735-2601 for more information.
