Hillman VFW holds meeting

HILLMAN — Fifteen members attended the regular meeting of the Hillman VFW Post 2356 at 6 p.m. on Aug. 6.

Gordon Brown was a new member in attendance.

The Friday night fish fry has been open since July 9, and doing well. The public is welcome to enjoy dinner at the hall or a to-go order. The meals have been increased in price by $1.50, which the VFW is not happy about either, but inflation has driven prices up.

The 77th annual V-J Day will be celebrated this weekend. Fireworks donation jars are out to continue the nice fireworks display at dusk on Saturday. A flyover is expected to be at noon on Saturday, the time the parade starts. All floats are welcome — just show up at St. Augustine Catholic Church by 11 a.m. on Saturday. After the parade, the VFW Hall will be open for hot dogs, brats, chips, and beer.

Montmorency County now has an effective Veterans Affairs rep in position. Call Michael Burzynski at 989-785-8043.

The post sells polyester 3′ by 5′ American flags for $25, made in the U.S. New flags and flag poles have been ordered.

If any qualified veterans are looking for a home, please call the VFW.

Medical supplies are available for loan. Please call Wayne at 989-255-4412, or Marv at 989-255-2072. If you have medical items no longer needed, please donate them. For post hall rentals, call Bob Hunt at 989-657-1162.

The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1.
