ALPENA — The APlex in Alpena will once again be hosting the annual Northern Michigan Quilt Show. This event will take place on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21.
A variety of handmade quilts will be on display for visitors to view and vote for their favorites. A selection of four quilting classes will also be taught at the event, which visitors can register for in advance. Admission for the event is $8 per day, and quilting classes start at $55.
“Our first show was held in June 2020,” said event organizer Elaine Sommerfeld. “We had 109 beautiful quilts on display for all to walk through and vote on their personal favorites. Even though we were just coming out of the first full year of COVID-19, we had six vendors that participated in the event, along with two classes taught by two amazing quilters from our local surrounding area. We learned a lot from that first endeavor and are set on using that first year as a foundation to build on from there.”
