Open house, board meeting Monday at Wilson School

Alpena Public Schools and the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce would like to invite the community to the Wilson Elementary Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, at 4999 Herron Road, Herron.

The event is to celebrate the new renovations for Wilson, paid for with the Safe, Warm and Dry Bond approved by voters in March of 2020. Wilson facility upgrades include a new roof, boiler system, parking lot and secure entry which allow the district to better serve Wilson students and their families.

The October meeting of the Alpena Public Schools Board of Education will follow in the Wilson Gym at 5:30 p.m.

Parkinson’s group Monday

The Alpena Area Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 167 E. Ripley Blvd., Alpena. For more information, call Judy Poli at 989-370-6854.

Grace Episcopal dinner Oct. 29

Grace Episcopal Church is starting up its monthly dinners this month. This month’s dinner will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 29. The menu includes homemade soups, sandwiches and pies.

The cost is by donation. The church is located at 13488 Long Rapids Road.

MediLodge job fair on Tuesday

Area MediLodge centers (Alpena, Green View, Hillman, and Rogers City) are hosting a job fair 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, at the MediLodge Training Center, 228 S 3rd Ave, Suite B, Alpena.

On-the-spot interviews will be available if applicants would like. The centers really need some help to boost staffing to help provide the best care for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community. In addition to nurses, positions are available for Certified Nursing Assistants, with paid training and certification.
