ALPENA — On Saturday, Aug. 21, the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan hosted a reception to celebrate the opening of this year’s juried exhibition, as well as the opening of the solo exhibition of the 2020 juried winner, Stephanie LaFramboise.

Erwin P. Lewandowski juried this show.

Best In Show (first place) was presented to Chuck Schroeder for “Mai Tiki.”

“Chuck has done a marvelous job of creating a beautiful rendering with a challenging scene,” Lewandowski commented. “I was particularly impressed with his attention to details, shapes, shadows, color applications, and a wonderful perspective that allows the viewer to enjoy all of the elements within the composition.”

Second place was presented to Marilyn Bachelor for “Moving Squarely.”

“Marilyn has created an exciting abstract composition that is filled with interesting shapes, patterns, and colors,” Lewandowski said. “I particularly enjoy that way the piece naturally draws your eye into the focus areas.”

Third place was presented to Marvin Dean for “Hide and Seek.”

“This steel sculpture work has a moving quality that really holds your attention,” Lewandowski said. “Combining steel with aged wood adds a unique touch to the piece.”

Honorable mentions were awarded to:

Kati Meek for “Autumn Zen”; Kathleen Bower for “Blue Swallow”; Carol Lund for “Texture #2”; Leanna Springer for “Horizon”; Mary Lightner for “Nectarine Glow”; Gerald Mulka for “November Morning”; and Jeff Burnash for “Mackinaw Bridge at Night.”
