ALL programs planned for this week

ALPENA — This week’s programs from the Association of Lifelong Learners include dominoes, card games, i2P tours, an historic program about the Alpena Garment Factory, and a meal at Red Brick Tap & Barrel.

Dominoes

Mexican Train Express dominoes is played from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday at Alpena Community College’s M. Briggs Center.

Ready for a fun, addictive and fast-moving game that has lots of surprising twists and turns? Join ALL for Mexican Train Express. This dominoes game does not have partners and can be played with two, three, four, five or more players. You will learn some tricks and techniques. You may join this class at any time during the year.

i2P Tours

Tours of Reacher Mfg. Corp./Convey X Corp., an i2P facility located in the previous Kmart building, will be held at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. today at 2355 U.S.-23 South in Alpena.

Each tour can accommodate up to 12 people. There will be plenty of time for questions. RMC and CXC sell, engineer/design and assembly material handling equipment. Pre-registration is required by calling 989-358-7207.

Jackie Krawczak, Jon Cox and a representative from CXC will be present. Krawczak works for InnovaTech Solutions, and Cox works for RMC.

Pickleball

ALL Pickleball is played from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the APlex. Call the ALL office at 989-358-7207 for details.

Alpena Garment Factory

Alpena Garment Factory: A History of the Rise and Fall of Alpena’s Biggest Clothing Company, will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at M. Briggs Center and via Zoom.

Join Alpena County Library Special Collections Librarian Don La Barre as he shares the fascinating history of the Alpena Garment Factory whose unique history is worthy of a major motion picture film. From humble beginnings to being shown in the fashion circles of Paris learn about the rise and fall of this major industry in Alpena.

La Barre started his position as Special Collection Librarian in 2020, right before the pandemic began. Prior to moving to Alpena, La Barre worked as a cultural resource management specialist in the San Francisco Bay Area. He received his MA from the Flinders University of South Australia in Maritime Archaeology in 2017. He loves sharing the history gleaned through the special collections and helping researchers and patrons learn how to use the collections.

Pinochle

Julie Byrnes is inviting you to join her and others in single deck pinochle from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays in July at M. Briggs Center.

Contract Bridge

Contract bridge is played from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Fridays at M. Briggs Center. This is an ongoing group of card players who welcome any players at any time. This is a teaching class but welcome experienced players as well.

Moveable Feast

Join ALL for the latest Moveable Feast at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Red Brick Tap & Barrel, 109 River St.
