Next week’s ALL programs: Books and ‘can’t miss’ movies

ALPENA — Programs from the Association of Lifelong Learners for April 19 to 24 have been announced.

These programs are open to the public. Just send an email to ALL@Alpenacc.edu to receive Zoom connection information.

In person: Book Lover’s Gathering

Join other readers at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20 for Book Lover’s Gathering.

This group is back after a short respite due to COVID. Please join the group to discuss a favorite book or two recently read or in the past. For new participants, the group briefly talks about their book choice by taking turns. It is a relaxed atmosphere and new ideas are shared. A list of the presented books and authors is composed for future reference.

Carey Rapin realized how important reading is to her during this time of isolation. She is excited to resume this long-time, quarterly ALL program.

Zoom only: “What! You have not seen this yet?”

“What! You have not seen this yet?” is all about movies at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, via Zoom.

This is one creative man (actor, director, teacher and lecturer) sharing with you the movies he has enjoyed recently on television. Movies from Netflix, Disney + and TCM have so much to offer that good things are bound to slip by. Certainly, you will not agree with all his choices, but you are bound to find treats you may have missed. Selections will vary from recent to old — likely a series or two –mostly single viewings.

Leeds Bird is a lifelong Bay City native. He holds a B.A. in theatre/communications and a M.A. in theatre from Michigan State University. He retired after 30 years of teaching theater at high school level, 27 years owning Bird’s Custom Framing, and 10 years performing in the Midwest and New England as Mark Twain. Bird taught movie appreciation classes for several years and was adjunct faculty at Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University.
