HILLMAN – A pop-up food pantry held Saturday in Hillman served 189 families – 158 from Montmorency County, five from Presque Isle County, and 26 from Alpena County.

The pop-up pantry, held at Thunder Bay Resort, was successful, thanks to volunteers from the Hillman Lions Club, TCF Bank, community members, Jack Matthias of Thunder Bay Resort, and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.

The pop-up pantry has been held at Thunder Bay Resort since January, but now that golf has picked up and the resort is busier, upcoming pantries will be held at Patchwood Plaza for the summer. An indoor drive-thru is available there, so the events will not be weather-dependent.

Upcoming pantry events will be held on May 1 in Atlanta, and May 22 at Patchwood Plaza in Hillman.

The May 1 event will be held from noon until food is gone at Atlanta Eagles Club, 10982 M-32, Atlanta.

Volunteers prepare boxes of food for distribution on Saturday at a pop-up pantry in Hillman.

The May 22 event will be held from noon until food is gone. Patchwood Plaza is located at 14797 State St.

For your safety and the safety of others, this will be a drive-up distribution. Please remain in your vehicle. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Distribution may start early if necessary for traffic control.
