ALPENA — First Federal of Northern Michigan Legacy Foundation presented a $2,000 check to Trinity Episcopal’s Sunday Supper and food pantry program as one of their first quarter grant recipients. The $2,000 will be used toward the purchase of food and serving supplies.

Trinity Episcopal’s Sunday Supper program began in 1997 to ensure that anyone needing a meal had one available as, what now has become the Friendship Room, did not provide meals on Sunday. The program is overseen by Ellen Eagan who ensures volunteers are trained, scheduled, and have the food and supplies needed to provide a nutritious meal to the guests.

Though processes and procedures have changed due to the pandemic, the program continues to serve an average of just under 300 meals each month. All meals are currently being served curbside with masks and social distancing observed to help protect the guests and volunteers.

In addition to meals served on Sundays, Trinity Episcopal hosts a food pantry for those in need of food during the week. An individual simply needs to contact the church office at 989-356-0576 to arrange to pick up a box of food that will help them get through the week. During the past year, over 168 families were provided food.

With donations down because many of the fundraisers that support the program were canceled and the additional expense of carry-out containers, support from the local community is greatly appreciated. To learn more about the program, make a donation, or to volunteer, please contact Eagan at 989-464-9938.
