Childhood depression is Power of Parenting topic

National reports that childhood depression is on the rise prompted the Power of Parenting planning team to focus on the topic for the April 20 virtual session, Understanding Depression and Building Resilience in Children.

Larry LaCross, LMSW and Clinical Supervisor for Catholic Human Services Eastern Region, will discuss common signs and symptoms of childhood depression and how it differs from depression in adults. Strategies for effective treatment and building resilience in kids will be featured in this Zoom session. Participants who wish to do so will be able to ask questions and share comments during the interactive presentation.

The workshop is free but text registration is required by noon Monday. Text Power to 989-418-3962 and you’ll receive the link for the session.

Delivery of Power of Parenting events transitioned to Zoom this year, and sessions are still planned by an interagency team. Financial support is provided by the Alpena-Presque Isle Child Abuse/Neglect Team and United Way of Northeast Michigan, and agencies provide local presenters with expertise on a variety of topics.

Anyone who’d like to help in planning is encouraged to call Angie Bruning at 989-354-3101.
