St. Patrick’s Day meal for pickup at senior center

For the luck o’ the Irish, it’s time to celebrate St.Patrick’s Day with good cheer and a great meal.

The Alpena Senior Citizens Center is offering a special holiday meal, available via curbside pickup, on Wednesday, March 17.

The menu includes corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes, corn bread and cookies. Curbside pickup will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The suggested donation for seniors age 60 and over is $3.50 per meal. The cost for anyone under the age of 60 is $7 per meal.

Please call by March 10 to reserve your meal. The senior center number is 989-356-3585, and it is located at 501 River St. in Alpena.

Power of Parenting Q&A via Zoom on March 16

Power of Parenting is holding a live question and answer session via Zoom from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16.

Join with other parents and guardians, in a night of getting your most pressing behavior-related questions answered. This workshop is free.

This Power of Parenting workshop aligns with the Strengthening Families framework by promoting the following protective factors: Knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need, and social and emotional competence of children. Ask questions about school-age (ages 3-18) behavior and at home supports.

Your questions will be answered with steps you can take to strengthen positive, cooperative relationships with your children.

St. Patrick’s Day dinner March 20 at Alpena VFW

A St. Patrick’s Day dinner will be held Saturday, March 20 at the Ernest G. Shreeves VFW Post 2496 in Alpena.

The dinner will be served from 1 to 7 p.m., dine-in or carry-out at the VFW, 2900 Connon St., Alpena.

The menu will include corned beef and cabbage. All proceeds will go to the VFW Post 2496 Veterans Relief Fund.

Soccer registration is open

Thunder Bay Soccer Association’s Spring 2021 Registration is open. Season information and online registration is available at www.thunderbaysoccer.com.

Coed recreational teams are available for those born from 2007 to 2017.

The registration deadline is April 9.

Amvets to meet March 19

The Amvets Post 2497 will be having an important meeting at their post at 6 p.m. on March 19 to vote on the modification of some of the post by-laws.

It’s important that all members attend.

This will be followed by nominations of officers that will lead to a ballot vote in May, and officers will be installed at the annual June meeting.
