ALL programs next week: alternative medicine, photography and birding

ALPENA — Programs from the Association of Lifelong Learners for next week have been announced. They include virtual presentations on alternative medicine, photography and birding.

Currently all programs are via Zoom livestream only. These programs are open to the public. Just send an email to ALL@Alpenacc.edu to receive Zoom connection information. Feel free to share this list with your friends, relatives and other organizations.

Tuesday, March 16

At 11 a.m. on March 16, learn about Alternatives That Support Healthy Living.

This program features a discussion on alternative medicine. These alternatives include a broad array of safe supplements and treatments that support a strong immune system — our primary defense against infection and disease.

Presenter Jack Mathias will share his own experience and favorable results with some of these supplements. One product, velvet elk antler, can be harvested from the elk right at the Thunder Bay Resort in Hillman. In light of our current national COVID-19 pandemic, Tuesday’s program will offer additional considerations for healthy living.

Mathias owns and operates Thunder Bay Resort just at the village limits of Hillman. The resort offers a premier golf course, deluxe lodging, an RV park, dining and elk viewing. The elk viewing has been listed among Michigan’s top things to do. Guests enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the woods and elk preserve topped off with a gourmet dinner and wine-tasting event in a log cabin.

Wednesday, March 17

Focus on Fun Camera Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. on March 17 via Zoom.

Picture an informal monthly meeting where you share the joy of photography. From beginning photographers to experts, members have widely varying degrees of photographic expertise and experience and are willing to share their knowledge. Each month, a photographic topic is chosen, and the fun begins. You will be welcomed.

Thursday, March 18

Hear about the Christmas Bird Count at 2 p.m. on March 18 via Zoom.

Counting birds? Why would you want to do that? Discover fascinating information about the Christmas Bird Count (CBC). What is it? Who takes part? What is the purpose? Explore local data from recent counts gathered by members of Thunder Bay Audubon Society.

Karen Tetzlaff took up birding after retirement. Having fed birds for most of her adult life, learning more about the varied species and making some new human friends too, birding has been a perfect fit for a nature lover. Thunder Bay Audubon Society members will join her to share their experiences as bird enthusiasts.
