Watch Mars rover landing at Besser Museum on Feb. 18

ALPENA — From noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan will be hosting an in-person watch-along of the newest Mars rover, Perseverance, as it touches down on Martian soil.

During this time, the museum will be open as usual for museum tours, however, special activities will coincide with Perseverance’s landing. The Alpena County Library will be partnering with the Besser Museum to provide special activities at the event. Activities will include a livestream from NASA inside the planetarium with Planetarium Coordinator Johnathan, who will answer Mars/astronomy questions. The museum will also be holding educational demonstrations focused on Mars and space travel. All attendees will receive a Mars activity kit to take home and enjoy along with a goody bag, which will include Mars cookies.

The event will start at noon and end at 4 p.m., when the museum closes. The price of admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $3 for children 6-18 years old. Museum Members, ACC students, and active or retired military are free. The museum is still running at limited capacity and will only be accepting 25 guests per hour, so call ahead and reserve your tickets for this special event.
