ALL photography program Tuesday

ALPENA — Programs from the Association of Lifelong Learners this week include a photography presentation on Tuesday.

Currently all programs are via Zoom livestream only. These programs are open to the public. Just send an email to ALL@Alpenacc.edu to receive Zoom connection information.

Learn about the challenges and fun of taking pictures at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, from photographer Mark Hansen.

What goes on in the mind of a photographer? What prompts him to take that photo? What equipment was used and how was the shot set up? This presentation will shed light on some of those questions as photographer Mark Hansen shares some of his photographs and tells us what happened before the shutter was snapped. The hope is this program will serve as a catalyst for your own creative photographs.

Mark Hansen grew up in Alpena and recently retired from the financial world. On the side he has been the photographer for the Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band since 2004.

Muralist on Wednesday

Then at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, meet muralist and street artist Justin “Nether 410” Nethercut. Nether will speak about the history of street art/muralism, show you a bit of his portfolio and explain what he does. Nether’s works can be found in Baltimore, Maryland and many U.S. cities, also internationally in London, Paris, Berlin, and Montreal. He is the grandson of local residents, Gordon and Vernie Nethercut.

Nether is a native Baltimorean street artist and mural painter. Nether’s work is a social documentation of the struggles, dreams, history and dilemmas that our cities and subcultures face. Over the past 10 years, Nether has painted over 70 walls across Baltimore, and helped organize over 30 more pieces of public art.
