Ann Gildner to give virtual studio tour in ALL program
ALPENA – Metal sculptor Ann Gildner will give a virtual studio tour next week as one of the Association of Lifelong Learners programs. These programs are free and open to the public.
Currently all programs are via Zoom Livestream only. For connection information, send an email to ALL@Alpenacc.edu. Feel free to share this list with your friends, relatives and other organizations.
At 2 p.m. on Monday, join Gildner for “A Virtual Tour of an Artist’s Metal Sculpture Studio.”
Gildner will give a tour of her metal studio and explain along with demonstrate the machines, tools and metals she uses in creating her metal sculptures. She will show the layout of a design to a “maquette” (a sculptor’s small preliminary model) ready to be made in any size per customer orders. Questions are encouraged.
Gildner has been in the arts for over 40 years. Her formal fine arts education was received from Siena Heights University in Michigan in 1980 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Having received several awards for her work over the years as a mixed media painter and ceramist, Gildner wanted her work to live outside. In 2009, metal was the media; so she learned to weld from Alpena Community College classes held at the Moran Iron Works in Onaway. The first strike of the rod arced and sparked like fireworks. She loved it! Now her favorite technique is welding and moving metal into public art, such as the “Departure of the Great Blue Herons” located at the Duck Park in Alpena, across from the hospital.
Gildner works in the Industrial Arts Institute Studio as the Artist in Residence, welding instructor for ornamental welding and CAD/CNC plasma machining in Onaway.
