Monday

Gildner will give a tour of her metal studio and explain along with demonstrate the machines, tools and metals she uses in creating her metal sculptures. She will show the layout of a design to a “maquette” (a sculptor’s small preliminary model) ready to be made in any size per customer orders. Questions are encouraged.

Ann Gildner

Gildner has been in the arts for over 40 years. Her formal fine arts education was received from Siena Heights University in Michigan in 1980 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Having received several awards for her work over the years as a mixed media painter and ceramist, Gildner wanted her work to live outside. In 2009, metal was the media; so she learned to weld from Alpena Community College classes held at the Moran Iron Works in Onaway. The first strike of the rod arced and sparked like fireworks. She loved it! Now her favorite technique is welding and moving metal into public art, such as the “Departure of the Great Blue Herons” located at the Duck Park in Alpena, across from the hospital.

Gildner works in the Industrial Arts Institute Studio as the Artist in Residence, welding instructor for ornamental welding and CAD/CNC plasma machining in Onaway.
