ALPENA — Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union team member Travis Van Horn was selected as this year’s Shining Star recipient.

The Shining Star Award is given to an employee, branch, or department that has been nominated by a fellow employee, or themselves, for going above and beyond with their job. Each quarter throughout the year, a winner is selected to receive this award giving them the opportunity to win the overall Shining Star Award announced at AAACU’s Annual Holiday Party. This year’s quarterly winners were Denise Chapman, AAACU’s Call Center Team, and Travis Van Horn.

On Friday, Dec. 4, the credit union hosted a virtual Holiday Party where Travis Van Horn was announced as the overall winner of the 2020 Shining Star Award.Van Horn works behind the scenes as part of the IT Department and while he might not be member-facing, he plays an important role in the credit union.

“Travis is persistent, dedicated, and is always willing to help and we are honored to have him as part of our team,” a press release stated.

AAACU serves members primarily in Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency, and Iosco counties with 9 locations: a main office located in Alpena, with branch offices in Ossineke, Lincoln, a Tiger Branch in Alcona Community Schools, Atlanta, Oscoda, the Owl’s Nest in Oscoda Area Schools, Tawas, and an additional branch in Alpena.
