VFW Auxiliary held Sept. meeting
The regular meeting of the VFW 2496 Auxiliary was presided over by President Darryl at 6 p.m. on Sept. 8, with 11 members in attendance.
Judy Brown, District 13 president, and her husband were introduced as guests. She was in Alpena conducting an inspection of the 2496 Auxiliary.
The secretary and treasurer reports were given and both were approved as read, pending audit. The secretary read the September correspondence from the Department Chief of Staff and a thank-you note for hosting the Aug. 29 School of Instruction.
All committee chairman presented their reports for September, and two donations were approved for Camp Trotter.
The auxiliary is offering an incentive of $25 off life membership dues to encourage annual members to become life members.
The outreach program is requesting new homemade blankets before Christmas to give to children in need. Important dates to remember this month are Patriots Day Sept. 11, POW-MIA Day Sept. 18, and Gold Star Mothers/Family Day on Sept. 27.
A vote will be taken next month on the approval of the amended Standing Rules. It was decided to remove the Auxiliary flags from the cemeteries on Sept. 12. until May of next year.
Reminders were given about the spaghetti dinner sponsored by the lounge on Sept. 11 (today) and the Adopt a Highway road clean-up scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 26.
Members are also encouraged to attend the Fall Conference at Boyne Highlands on Oct. 2 and 3.
After the closing ritual was conducted, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. by President Darryl. The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 13.
