Hillman VFW pleased with success of 75th annual V-J Day celebration

The regular Aug. 6 meeting of Hillman VFW Post 2356 commenced at 6 p.m., with 11 officers and a total of 13 members present for the meeting.

The 75th annual V-J Day celebration held on Aug. 8 was very successful, with a very good turnout. The parade was at noon, food and music outside, and fireworks at dusk. People were happy to have a place to go.

At this time the VFW is not planning to have its Friday night fish fry. That will start back up once the restrictions of six foot social distancing are removed.

The group sells polyester 3’x5′ American flags for $25. A lot of clubs are having trouble getting members and some posts are closing. Any qualified veterans are welcome to join.

To rent or donate medical supplies, call Marv at 989-255-2072, or Wayne at 989-255-4412. For post hall rentals, call Bob Hunt at 989-657-1162.

The group’s next regular meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sept. 3.

The Hillman VFW Post 2356 is located at 441 S. State St., Hillman.
