SUNRISE SIDE BULLETIN BOARD

Scouts recruiting event this Saturday open to boys and girls

Scout leaders have officially kicked off their annual recruiting efforts for Scouting, but this year, something truly historic is happening.

For the first time ever, Cub Scout enrollment welcomes both boys and girls (ages 5-10) to the program.

“We’re helping bring families together, making it easier for them to have all of their children participate in the same character-building fun and adventure programs,” a press release stated. “Everyone is invited.”

The press release noted that all families are welcome to attend one of the Cub Scouts Join Nights in Alpena, to learn more about the program, get their questions answered, and register their sons and/or daughters for Cub Scouts.

A recruitment event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Alpena County Fairgrounds, 625 S. 11th Ave.

Parents can also visit BeAScout.org for more information and resources to learn more about Scouting and its programs, the benefits and experience.

“On behalf of Pack 3092, we’d love to introduce you to what Scouting offers — by speaking with a local pack representative, attending a local event or even speaking with a local Cub Scout to tell you more about what they love about it,” said Chris Sopczynski, Cub Master of Pack 3092.

For more information, call Sopczynski at 989-971-9011, or David Pickelhaupt, Cub Master of Pack 3078, at 810-887-7494, or Chris Harsch, Scoutmaster of Troop 92, at 989-464-0264.

AHS Class of 1953 cancels 2020 meetings

The AHS Class of 1953 members will not meet until spring of 2021. All meetings for the remainder of 2020 are cancelled, which includes the annual picnic/dinner usually held in August. The cancellations are due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 virus. For more information, call Jeanne at 989-356-0606.
