Mikado American Legion Fish Fry on Friday

The Mikado American Legion Post 254 Fish Fry will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday. The Post is located at 2205 Alger St. in Mikado. Carry out will be available. For more information, call 989-736-9526.

MediLodge of Alpena Honk and Wave Parade on Saturday

Family, friends and the community are all welcome to participate in the MediLodge of Alpena Honk and Wave Parade from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The event will kick off Spirit Week at MediLodge. To participate, decorate your vehicle and bring signs or flags. Residents will be waiting for you to honk and wave. Please RSVP by Wednesday by calling Melissa at 989-657-9063 or Marcia at 989-356-2194.

Vehicles should meet at the First Presbyterian Church at 1600 W. Chisholm St. in Alpena between 12:30 and 12:45 p.m. The procession will begin at 12:50 p.m. from the church and head to MediLodge.

NEMCSA food distribution at East Campus on Aug. 11

Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency will host Alpena food distribution from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at East Campus, 801 W. Miller St. in Alpena.

You are eligible for this income-based food distribution if you meet the following criteria:

¯ You live within one of NEMCSA’s 11 counties — Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Cheboygan, Crawford, Iosco, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego or Presque Isle.

¯ Your monthly income falls within these guidelines based on household size:

1 person — $2,082 or less; 2 people — $2,818 or less; 3 people — $3,555 or less; 4 people — $4,292 or less; 5 people — $5,028 or less; 6 people — $5,765 or less; and add $736 for each additional household member.

Alpena VFW Auxiliary met

The July 14 meeting of the Alpena VFW 2496 Auxiliary was held at 6 p.m. with President Darryl McQuarrie presiding, with 14 members present.

There were no new applications to be reviewed.

Cheryl Ludwiczak gave the secretary and treasurer’s report.

Mary Talaska reported on the Forever G.I. Bill update.

A new post flag was donated by Nancy Flasck and put up by Tom Ludwiczak. Winona Raquepaw gave buddy poppy report and also invited all who can attend the District 13 Michigan meeting held Aug. 1 in Harbor Springs.

Terry Stonebarger gave the Post Bingo report with $2,000 donated to the Auxiliary.

Steve Romel reported that the Brown Trout Festival will still take place with fishing only.

The draping of the Charter was held for past members, Kay Donakowski and Ann Waldera, who passed away in May.

The meeting was adjourned at 7 p.m.

The next Auxiliary meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
