Peters named Napoleon deputy chief of police

In this photo taken by John Hummer of the Exponent, new Napoleon Township Police Department Deputy Chief Matt Peters poses with a plaque at the July 14 meeting of the Napoleon Township Board, where he was promoted from his former position as captain. At the meeting, Township Supervisor Dan Wymer presented him with the plaque and thanked him for his service. Napoleon Township Chief of Police Duaine Pittman congratulated him on his promotion.

Peters has served more than 20 years with police departments. He was first hired by the Jackson Police Department in 1998 and worked with the city until 2015. He then worked for the Judicial Services Group. He joined the Napoleon Township police force in October 2016.

Peters is the son of Tom and Anne Peters of Alpena. He graduated from Alpena High School and earned a degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University.
