DDA extends Coffee and Cars Saturdays thru Sept. 5

ALPENA — In July, the Alpena Downtown Development Authority hosted a new casual and fun event, Coffee and Cars, featuring classic and collectible cars parked downtown for viewing. After the success of those two events, the DDA Promotions Committee decided to extend the events through the rest of the summer until Labor Day.

Coffee and Cars is now scheduled to occur from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday now through Sept. 5.

To participate in Coffee and Cars as a car collector, you can drive your classic or collectible car downtown and park anywhere within the district wherever you feel most comfortable. Then grab a coffee from Cabin Creek or Biggby and hang out downtown, walk around to find the other cars, duck into a few stores to do some shopping, or just enjoy your coffee on a picnic table in Culligan Plaza or along 2nd Avenue.

If you’re not comfortable parking and getting out and about downtown, attendees are welcome to cruise around the downtown district in their cars for a little while. To participate as a member of the community, come downtown on any of the listed Saturday mornings through the rest of summer and walk around to find and check out the cars. Grab a cup of coffee as well and take a walk through downtown, maybe even do a little shopping.

One thing to note is that if the weather is uncooperative, there may be no classic, collector, or vintage cars downtown.

If you are participating in this event, please continue to abide by social distancing guidelines: wear a mask when inside or in close quarters with others, wash and sanitize your hands frequently, and keep six feet of distance between you and others outside of your household.

“This event is great because it’s a simple and fun way for people to get out and about and come downtown in a low-risk, spread out way. It’s been really awesome to see allt he different kinds of cars downtown on Saturday mornings and all the people strolling around and checking out the cars,” said Kingsli Kraft, Alpena DDA marketing and outreach coordinator. “Since it’s such a casual event, it just made sense to extend it through the rest of the summer.”
