LWV Alcona forum will be livestreamed on Facebook page

The Alcona County virtual candidate forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Northeast Michigan, has been rescheduled to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29. The original event was canceled because of fire damage at Thunder Bay Theatre where it was to be recorded. The forum will now be recorded at the Hubbard Lake North End Community Center. Only the candidates and their assistants will be in the audience. Regular League procedure will be followed.

The public is encouraged to watch the forum live on the League Facebook page by going to LWVNortheastMichigan. They can also view the recording later at the same page. Anyone who has internet can access the Facebook page. Both Alcona and Alpena forums can also be seen later.

Only candidates who have competition for their office in the Aug. 4 Primary Election are invited to the forum. These offices are: Caledonia Township Supervisor, Caledonia Township Clerk, Caledonia Township Treasurer, Caledonia Township Trustee, Alcona County Road Commissioner, and Alcona County District 2 Commissioner.

Split ticket voting is not allowed in the Aug. 4 Primary Election. Voters must choose to vote either Republican or Democratic. To see a sample ballot, registered voters can go to VOTE411.org. The candidates that are running for offices in your area will be shown, including any proposals for your county, city or township. If you are not a registered voter, you can register online, or see your township or city clerk.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization which neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties.
