First Federal of Northern Michigan (FFNM) Legacy Foundation presented a $2,000 grant to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hubbard Lake as part of their second quarter grant awards. The $2,000 will be used in the renovation of two classrooms that will become a licensed childcare center.

St. Paul Lutheran Church, located in the old Hubbard Lake elementary school, is in the process of renovating two classrooms in their existing building into a state licensed daycare center.

The center will offer reasonably priced childcare services to families in Alpena and Alcona counties.

The Small Business Development Center donated their time and resources in developing a business plan and the planning and much of the construction work is being supplied by volunteers. Funding to complete the renovations and cover start-up costs is being sought through grants, the business community, and donations. Their goal is to have the renovation, licensing requirements, and director/staffing in place by the fall of 2021.

For more information on the project, call Pastor Joe Llewellyn at 989-727-2496.

Construction is underway on the new daycare center.
