Sly mink outwits gull

Drama in the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary was captured on camera recently as a bird and a mammal played a game of “Go Fish.”
Incredible varieties of animals live in the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary. The daily dramas surrounding their lives are observable by any of us humans who watch and listen. The photos here tell the story of a herring gull who was skillful and lucky enough to snag a 10-inch blue gill for its dinner. Alas! Not so fast, gull. Other gulls edged in to savor the feast. The gull voiced its displeasure, screaming “Mine, mine, mine!”
For a moment, the gull left its prize and that quickly lost it. A watching mink scampered across the grass, snatched the fish and quickly retreated into the cattails by the marsh. It was just another little adventure in the sanctuary, and lucky us – we photographed the incident. These photos and description were submitted by Judy Kalmanek.
