Cheer up your neighbors at 1 p.m. on Sunday

A reader suggested that we all get on our porches and wave, sing, and play instruments if we have them, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, as a way of breaking the isolation without leaving our own homes.

She has been going for walks around her neighborhood, but said she has not seen many people out. Now that the weather is warming up, she thought Sunday would be a good day to cheer each other up with a smile and a wave.

“I think it’s good to see faces,” said Deb Ludwiczak, who called The News with the idea.

She said phone calls are nice, but as humans, we could all use a smile and social interaction in some way. She said this “porch party” will allow for interaction while still keeping social distance.

“I think it’s important we keep the connections alive,” Ludwiczak said.

If you’re driving to the grocery store at 1 p.m. on Sunday, honk and wave at your neighbors and fellow residents. It’s just a small way to help someone smile, and remember we are all in this together.
