Marine Corps meeting tonight

Marine Corps League Detachment 1327 Alpena meets at 6 p.m. tonight at the VFW Hall on Connon Street.

Veteran Coffee Hour Thursday

Veteran Coffee Hour is 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center in Alpena, sponsored by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Northeast Michigan, the United Way of Northeast Michigan, and Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Tiny Tots, coding, teen journaling at Alpena County Library

Tiny Tots, for children birth to age 2-1/2, with caregiver, is 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Alpena County Library.

Saturday is Coding Day at Alpena County Library, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with activity stations, Ozbots, a coding caterpillar obstacle course race, Ozmo coding, Sphero races, Wii games, a virtual reality gaming station, and more, for all ages.

On Sunday, a free bullet-journaling workshop for teens is from 3 to 4 p.m. at Alpena County Library. This class for ages 12 to 18 will provide inspiration, easy tips, and an opportunity to explore different formats and styles. All materials will be provided. Bullet journaling enthusiast Kingsli Kraft will lead the workshop. For more information, call Sara at the library at 989-356-6188.

Bridge winners announced

Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners this week were Deanna Brege and Marge French in first place, Fred Woolman and Eve Phillips in second, and Jackie Kennedy and Marcy Sherman in third.

Used book sale at hospital Friday

A used book sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena lobby, hosted by hospital volunteers.

Longbeards to meet Tuesday

The Alpena Longbeards will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Alpena Moose Lodge on Werth Road. Raffle tickets will be available, and banquet plans will be discussed.

Bidding open through Saturday for Salvation Army Gold Coin

Saturday is the final bidding day for the Salvation Army Gold Coin Auction. This past Christmas, The Salvation Army of Alpena received an amazing donation in one of their Red Kettles — a 2009 Walking Liberty 1 oz. gold coin, valued at about $1,500. The coin is up for auction on on The Salvation Army of Alpena’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AlpenaArmy.

The coin can be examined during business hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday). To place a bid, add your bid in the comments, or, if you aren’t on Facebook, or to make a bid without putting your name online, call the office at 989-358-2769. Bidding for the coin will end at 10 p.m. Saturday.

K of C breakfast buffet Sunday

Alpena Knights of Columbus Council 529 breakfast buffet is from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at at 1880 Hamilton Road, for $9 per adult, $4 per child ages 6 to 12, and free for ages 5 and under. The menu includes potato pancakes, buttermilk pancakes, sausage, ham, French toast, fried potatoes, bread, rolls and beverages.
