UAW retirees meet on Wed.

Northeast Michigan UAW Retired Workers Alpena Council will hold its monthly meeting and luncheon at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the 19th Hole. Lunch will be served at noon. Call for reservations by today: Chair Nick Williams at 989-727-4080.

A BCBS representative will be at the meeting. UAW members, spouses and surviving spouses are welcome to attend. Bring a can of food for the needy.

Longbeards to meet Tuesday

Alpena Longbeards will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Moose Lodge on Werth Road in Alpena. If you have any questions, call Edith at 989-354-4964.

Health seminar on Thursday

Healthy Connections food demonstration and health presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Alpena Seventh-day Adventist Church. The food demo will be “Health Food On-The-Go,” and the presentation will be “Smart Shopping for Healthy Weight Management.”

This free seminar will be in the fellowship hall at the church, 4029 U.S.-23 S., Alpena.

Golden Agers met in January

The Golden Agers met for a noon potluck at the Salvation Army Church on Jan. 10. The meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. After the meeting, card bingo was played, and a reading from the Angel book was read. The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

The next meeting will be craft day on Feb. 14. New members are welcome. The group meets on the second Friday of the month at the Salvation Army Church in Alpena.

Jeff Thomas to speak in R.C.

Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum hosts History Hour with Jeff Thomas at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The professional history educator and volunteer at GLLMM will be sharing his knowledge and love of history and boats with slides and stories based on local history and shipwrecks.

The maritime museum is located at 367 N. Third St. in Rogers City. Admision is $5 per person.

This event will be held on the first Tuesday of each month during the winter.

Founders book club to meet

The Founders Society of the Besser Museum Book Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the 19th Hole to discuss “The Point of It All” by Charles Krauthammer. You need not be a Founder to attend. The public is welcome.

Preschool Play Date, Tiny Tots at library

Preschool Play Date is from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Alpena County Library, for children ages 2-1/2 to 5 years, with a parent or caregiver. It will be held again Feb. 18.

Tiny Tots, for children birth through 2-1/2 years, is from 10 to 11 a.m. on Feb. 13 and 27, with a parent or caregiver.

There is no registration required for either program.
