Kiwanis Club seeks candidates for State Police career academy
The Alpena Kiwanis Club is seeking eligible candidates for this year’s Michigan State Police Law Enforcement Career Academy. Since 1975, the Kiwanis Clubs, in cooperation with the Michigan State Police, have sponsored this program.
Young men and women in grades 10, 11, and 12 who have a sincere interest in a law-related career are eligible to apply for this week-long program, meeting people who practice in such professions.
Through presentations and discussion, as well as a few basic training exercises, students get a hands-on experience that may help them to decide on such careers.
This program is a sampling of the State Trooper Recruit Training, not a summer camp. This year’s Academy will be held July 19-24 at the Michigan State Police Academy in Lansing with Police Officers serving as mentors and staff. Instructors come from state, county and local police departments.
The program starts on Sunday, July 19 and ends with a closing ceremony on Friday morning, July 24.
