Hillman VFW reports on Jan. 2 meeting

Hillman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2356 met on Jan. 2 for its regular monthly meeting, with 11 members present.

On Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, they lost James “Cooter” Schulters, who had been a very active VFW member.

Again this Christmas Day, the Hillman Community Christmas dinner was very successful. Local veteran Richard Brown donated money for a good cause, donated to the VFW Post for the use of the hall. A total of 85 people enjoyed a full turkey dinner. The Post is grateful to Brown and all the workers who helped to put on the dinner.

The VFW’s Friday night fish fry features cod, walleye, and shrimp every week, and to-go meals are available. The group is still in need of volunteers from 4 to 7 p.m. who can stand on their feet for three hours straight. You do not have to be a member to help with the fish fry.

The VFW sells polyester 3 x 5 foot American flags for $25 each. To rent medical supplies, call Marv at 989-733-0838 or Wayne at 989-255-4412. To rent the hall, call Bob Hunt at 989-657-1162.

The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.
