LWV book discussion Fri.

League of Women Voters of Northeast Michigan will meet at As You Wish at 11 a.m. on Friday for a book discussion, followed by lunch at noon. The book is “The Common Good,” by Robert B. Reich. You do not need to have read the book to join in for the discussion. Doris Feys, LWV co-president, will lead the discussion.

Studio Rubedo meditation class starting Saturday

A meditation class, Meditate in the Sanctuary, starts Saturday and will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon each Saturday through Dec. 28, at Studio Rubedo, 213 W. Chisholm St. in Alpena. There is a suggested donation of $10 to participate. Certified instructor Brian Schorn will lead a 30-minute guided meditation using a method called calm-abiding. No experience is necessary. Spaghetti dinner Saturday

Hunters and the public are invited to a homemade spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the local food pantry from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lott Baptist Church, 4257 State Rd./M-65 in Glennie. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, vegetables, drinks and desserts. Call 989-735-3438.

This week’s Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners were Loretta Reynolds and Jackie Kennedy in first place, Linda Clegg and Audrey Stevens in second place, and Marcy Sherman and Beverley Rousseau in third place. Celebrity server night for AHS cheerleaders Mon.

Pizza and Chill: Celebrity Server Night will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pizza Hut, to benefit the Alpena High Wildcat Cheerleaders. The AHS cheer team will wait on customers, and raffle tickets will be available for a chance to win one of the themed raffle baskets.
