ASO’s Holiday Pops, TBA sing-along on tap

A pair of popular holiday concerts are planned for the weekend of Dec. 7 and 8.

Orchestra’s Holiday Pops

The festive concerts start with the Alpena Symphony Orchestra’s holiday concert titled Holiday Pops, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Alpena High School Auditorium, 3303 S. Third Ave., Alpena.

The orchestra will be directed by ASO conductor Jim VanEizenga who lives in Novi. He serves as Director of Orchestras for the Novi Public Schools.

As the title implies, this concert will feature a variety of popular holiday selections sure to please everyone and put a “spring in your step.”

An ornament sale will be held in the lobby of the high school during intermission and following the concert. These ornaments of a musical nature are handcrafted by some of the members of the orchestra and are a seasonal fundraiser for the orchestra.

A reception will follow the concert in the lobby of the high school.

Tickets for this concert are $10 for adults, and free for students and children. Tickets will be on sale at the door and at Neiman’s Family Market prior to the concert.

Thunder Bay Arts Chorus

A Feast of Holiday Music

Thunder Bay Arts Chorus will join other area musicians to perform holiday music at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 124 E. Washington Ave., Alpena. This concert and sing-along is titled A Feast of Holiday Music.

In addition to performances by the chorus, seasonal vocal selections in close harmony will be performed, as will selections by piano and instrumental soloists. Song sheets for holiday music will be distributed at the door for the always-popular holiday community sing. A generous reception with holiday favorites will follow the concert courtesy of Thunder Bay Arts.

There will be no admission charge for this community-focused event, so bring the entire family to help Thunder Bay Arts welcome the holidays and wish one another the very best for the season.
