Breastfeeding groups in Alpena, Montmorency counties

Alpena and Montmorency counties have breastfeeding support groups meeting regularly. These free groups are open to expectant mothers, siblings, partners and supportive loved ones. They offer a chance to connect with other pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, share questions, concerns and success stories. Topics of discussion include latching and positioning, going back to work, pumping, storing breast milk, and starting solids.

The Alpena County group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, at Alpena Community College’s Besser Technical Center Room 107D (located next to the Lumberjack Shack). Upcoming meetings are on Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.

The Montmorency County group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month, at Brush Creek Mill, 121 S. State St. in Hillman. Upcoming meetings are on Oct. 28, Nov. 25, and Dec. 23.

For more information, contact Heather Heath, breastfeeding peer counselor, at 989-255-4730. Registration is not required for these sessions, sponsored by District Health Dept. #4.
