The Language Society at Alpena Community College is hosting a symposium “TLS Presents: Europe 2019” at 7 p.m. Friday in Granum Theatre. Attendees will hear from the students and faculty who traveled to Europe this summer with the Language Society.

Ten students and three faculty members went on a nine-day trip around Europe that started on June 3. During this trip, they visited Amsterdam, Budapest, Prague, Krakow, Berlin, and Paris.

Students participated in a variety of fundraisers over the course of two years to help pay for the trip.

“This was The Language Society’s second trip to Europe,” advisor Karol Walchak said. “The opportunity to travel is life changing. As well, we are bringing back our experiences from around the world to the people of Alpena and the surrounding communities.”

As part of their membership to the group, students are working on foreign languages and studies of culture in addition to their travels.

The Language Society is a collaboration of language learners dedicated to enhancing the foreign language experience of students, faculty members, staff, and alumni of Alpena Community College, as well as community members. Their goals include enhancing the linguistic skills of members as well as participating in community service by using languages for a variety of purposes.
