Judy Lyon

Join Expressive Artist Judy Lyon as she guides you through a Batik workshop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Art in the Loft, for ages 16 and up, for $110 per person.

Lyon is a retired high school art teacher and practicing artist who pursues many kinds of artistic processes from printmaking to mandalas. She learned the art of batik in collage during the mid-70s, and that is one of her most accomplished methods. She has also studied yoga and meditation extensively.

Lyon is originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Art and Psychology, with an emphasis in Art Therapy in 1977, from Grand Valley State University. She attended the University of South Florida in Sarasota to obtain her MA degree in Guidance Counseling in 1997, and she earned a Certification in Art and Healing in 2008 from Ringling College of Art and Design. She is a certified Guidance Counselor & Art Teacher.

Lyon is a current member of Florida Art Educators Association and Sarasota Art Educators Association. She is a frequent presenter at Expressive Arts Florida Institute workshops and trainings in Sarasota. She has presented Expressive Arts Trainings and Retreats in Florida and Michigan. Lyon has exhibited her artwork throughout both Michigan and Florida.

Lyon lives in Sarasota, Fla. and spends her summers in Huron Beach, Mich.

She will also teach Zentangle Animals from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Art in the Loft, for $50 per student, ages 16 and up.
