Island Park weed pull Tuesday morning

News Photo by Darby Hinkley Spotted Knapweed is an invasive plant.

The Ninth Annual Weed Pull on Island Park is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Members of the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary invite volunteers of all ages to visit Island Park at Duck Park to help remove an invasive plant, Spotted Knapweed.

This plant is harmful to other plants growing on the island and to biodiversity.

Sanctuary members will be present for plant identification and instructions.

Ice cream cone coupons will be given to all participants from North Country Candy and Gifts, co-sponsor of the Weed Pull.

Bags for collecting pulled plants will be provided. Bring garden gloves to protect hands. Sunscreen, water and a hat are also suggested.
