The August meeting of the Alpena Garden Club was held Aug. 5 at the 19th Hole.

After a delicious luncheon, Jacinta called the meeting to order. Birthdays were acknowledged. Marilyn Bloomberg gave the five-minute talk on health and diet benefits of gardening.

Linda Sansom, last year’s garden walk attendee, spoke on her seven-year hobby – growing, preparing and creating beautiful gourds. Bird houses, bird feeders, lamps and more were explained in great detail, after which Sansom answered questions from the members.

Barb Kwiatkowski, Pam Hand, Marilyn Bloomberg, Cathy Cathers and Mary Jo Murphy served on commitee for the month.

The members were called upon to help with a work bee at the home of medical students on the cornr of Second Avenue and White Street.

The next Alpena Garden Club meeting will be held on Sept. 9.
