Anneliese Mathia featured artist, reception tonight at TBAC Gallery

Thunder Bay Arts and TBAC Gallery present Anneliese Mathia as their featured artist for July and August.

An open house in her honor will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. tonight at the TBAC Office/Gallery at 127 W. Chisholm St., Alpena.

Mathia is a young artist currently living in the Alpena area. She recently graduated from Alpena Community College with a Fine Arts major. She plans to attend an art school in Michigan. She won the Congressional art competition of 2014. Her piece was shown at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., along with hundreds of other students from around the United States.

“I have always created art for as long as I can remember,” Mathia said. “It’s been such a big part of who I am. I enjoy working with acrylic paint, watercolor, pen and ink, always trying to create with whatever materials I can experiment with. I enjoy repurposing furniture and messing around with different mediums. My work is very abstract; I create whatever comes to my mind in that moment. I’m excited to implement my art into the local community.”

Tonight’s event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
