Fundraiser Fiesta for Folk Festival

Thunder Bay Folk Festival is having a Fundraiser Fiesta from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Pompeyos in Alpena.

The event will feature a taco bar and cash bar, live music, a silent auction, raffles, crafts and games.

The cost is $25 per person, which includes the taco bar and live music by Joel Choate Sr., The DAMM Band and Habana Gold.

The fundraiser will be upstairs in the restaurant, located at 1120 State in Alpena.

NALC Stamp Out Hunger Sat.

The National Association of Letter Carriers are hosting the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to bag healthy nonperishable food items and place them by their own mailboxes for letter carriers to pick up and deliver to food banks and pantries in the local community.

Evergreen gates program at ACL

“Cemetery Gates of Evergreen: Gateway to the Past, Present, and Future” is a free program at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Alpena County Library.

This special collections program will feature historian Marcia Simmons, Doug Bliss of Bliss Painting, and Alpena High School engineering student Tyler Edmonds.

Spurred by the community’s sense of loss at the removal of the deteriorated cemetery fence, the trio will discuss the history, deterioration, preservation, and restoration of Alpena’s Evergreen Cemetery gates.

VA to sponsor homeless walk

Annual VA2K Homeless Veteran Walks will be held across the country Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., noon and 12:30 p.m.

The local event will be at the Clement C. Van Wagoner VA Outpatient Clinic in Alpena at 180 N. State Ave.

Donations of toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap, dryer sheets, personal hygiene tems, towels, washcloths, cleaning supplies, socks, sleeping bags, paper towels, tissues, bus passes and gas cards are encouraged, but not required.

Rummage sale at First United

Alpena First United Methodist Church will host a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m on Thursday, May 16, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 17, with a paper bag sale from noon to 2 p.m. Friday.
