Lions hear from Schultz about suicide prevention

Mary Schultz of Alpena’s Partners in Prevention was the speaker at the April 9 meeting of the Alpena Lions Club.

Schultz reported on our local program aimed at teaching folks about suicides and also aimed at reducing suicides.

Program chair for the meeting was Alpena Lions Club Secretary Pat Hentkowski.

Schultz reported that suicide rates are now increasing in the United States. There are also more attempted suicides.

Schultz noted, “suicide rocks us,” and she is pleased to report that locally we are seeing a suicide prevention group reforming and meeting together.

Schultz also noted there is a relationship between drug use and suicides. Most people in trouble will let you know if they are considering suicide. She then outlined for the Lions the many steps you can take aimed at preventing suicide.
