Girl shares hair to show she cares

Emma Cornelius

Emma Maedean Cornelius, 7, daughter of Stephanie Anderson of Hillman, and Alex Cornelius of Hubbard Lake, had 8 inches of her hair cut off on Aug. 17 at CZ’s Salon in Alpena to donate to Children With Hair Loss (CWHL). Wigs are made from the donated hair and sent to children who suffer from cancer and other hair loss issues, at no cost to the children or their families.

For more information on CWHL, visit www.childrenwithhairloss.us ore call 734-379-4400. The non-profit, based in the Detroit area (South Rockwood), started in 2000 and offers hair replacement kits to more than 300 children per year.

“Originally, CWHL’s focus was on children fighting cancer, until we found out that there were a lot of other reasons why children lost hair including Alopecia, burns, Trichotillomania and other rare diseases and disorders,” the organization’s web site states. “To this day, Children With Hair Loss has never charged a child.”
