Alpena County Library Director Eric Magnus-Eubank was the speaker at last week’s meeting of the Alpena Lions Club. He reviewed the upcoming Oct. 11 event, when documentary producer Lynn Novick will speak here as Alpena’s Author in the Fall.

Novick’s presentation and speech will be featuring the work of Tim O’Brien, “The Things They Carried,” which is Alpena’s Community Read this fall.

Magnus-Eubank presented to the Lions a PowerPoint presentation of the Vietnam War that summarized numerous aspects of the war. His father was a Navy veteran in the Vietnam War, so he added many personal and interesting remarks of his own about the war.

Tom Woizeschke announced that the Lions Mint Sale is now scheduled for Sept. 14 and 15.

Ken Dully reported that 69 blood donors contributed to the American Red Cross Blood Drive, which was held at the First Methodist Church on Aug. 8. The Lions assisted at this event.

PDG Dave Zeller announced that the Lions will hold their annual Hobo Stew this year on Oct. 2 at the Alpena Tractor Club.
