Dow Museum features artist E.P. Lewandowski

Artist E.P. Lewandowski of Alpena will be one of five artists to showcase their artwork from Sept. 17 to Dec. 23 at the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Arts, Midland Center for the Arts in Midland.

Lewandowski’s exhibit, “The Ways of Water,” will feature over 50 selected studies of waterfalls, bubbling brooks, stream currents, quiet river pools, and shoreline settings from across North America.

“I was surprised to receive the invitation from Bruce Winslow, museum director, this past winter,” said Lewandowski. “My first thought was how in the world would I find the time, energy and artwork to present a major show during a very business summer/fall season. Any feelings of doubt quickly passed as I concluded that this was a rare opportunity for an artist.”

The art exhibit is scheduled to coincide with and add interest to two special events happening on Sept. 17 at the museum. The first is a planned national announcement and celebration of the new USS Gerald R. Ford carrier, while the second is a gala fundraiser for museum patrons. Special guests include former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and the ship’s sponsor, Susan Ford Bales.

“What a great start for an opening museum exhibit,” Lewandowski said.

An artist reception night is scheduled for the five concurrent exhibitions on Oct. 10.

On Aug. 1, Lewandowski was awarded Master Pencil Artist Status by the Pencil Art Society, based in Canada. He is one of four international pencil artists in 2015 to receive this designation.

“The seven-point criteria test for jury evaluation is very challenging and covers almost all aspects of an artist’s career,” Lewandowski said. “I’m so pleased to share this award with fellow artists Richard Chandler Hoff (United States), Clive Meredith (United Kingdom) and Gayla B Salvati (United States).”

The artist and his wife, Mary, reside along Lake Huron in Alpena. For more information, go to www.erwinplewandowsk.com.
