Thunder Bay Arts Council bringing a capella men’s group to Alpena

Thunder Bay Arts Council presents THUMMp this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Alpena High School Auditorium.

THUMMp is a professional five-man a cappella group from southeastern Michigan. Its members include Greg Vaden, Adam Westmoreland, Jason Miller, Ed Pendleton and Tre Cruz.

They are best recognized by their use of hand-held percussion like shakers and tambourines. Unique to the group is what they call a THUMMp stick- essentially a stick with some bells at the bottom of it that adds rhythm to their music.

They also sing classic rock and classic pop songs in a way that is usually quite unexpected songs like “Take Me to the River” and “Bad Case of Loving You” or standards like “Stand by Me” or “Up on the Roof.”

The band evolved from a former a cappella group named elmoTHUMM which included four of THUMMp’s current members. Some of their idols in the world of a cappella include The Nylons and singers like Scott Leonard of Rocapel.

They have won many contests, received awards, played for presidents and royalty, filled television screens, and worked their way into the hearts of children and parents throughout the country.

This is a regular scheduled event for TBAC season ticket/ARTPass holders. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. The cost is $10 for adults and students are free. The doors will open at 7 p.m.
